This unit was replaced with another unit (rather than going through the wait at an avionics shop) and so this one is being offered to help offset the cost of the replacement. To help potential buyers in deciding if they want to purchase this unit, I am also providing information that I obtained to decide on going the replacement route instead of the repair option. One quote I obtained from a certified FAA facility included a $995 evaluation fee (which only applies if one doesn't proceed with repairs, $1,474 average labor cost and $4,500 average cost for parts with a 15-20 day timeframe and a 6 month warranty. Therefore, repairs could be about $6,000. So taking the price of this unit into account, this could be a functioning unit again with a total cost of $8,000-$9,000. This is still less than supposed functioning units currently offered on ebay for $10,000 to $11,000 with unknown history and repairs. Furthermore, avionics repair shops offer used off-the-shelf repaired replacements starting at $13,550 and new units costing to in excess of $31,0000.

So this unit might be an option to save several thousand dollars, but there will be additional repair costs. Again, I went the replacement route because I did not want to wait to repair the unit.

Alternatively, any interested avionics repair shops are welcome to purchase this unit and then resell it, as I imagine they can repair it for significantly less than the repair costs I was quoted above and make a tidy profit.

Again, this unit is being sold as an as-is core for repair or parts. Buyer assumes all responsibility with respect to whether they can and how they use this unit.
