The Eventide Argus family brought dedicated moving-map displays to aircraft panels, presenting navigation information graphically rather than only on individual needles and dials. This example is offered with the specific simulator-only testing and limitations stated below; no current navigation database or flight readiness is implied.
Eventide Argus 7000/CE Color Moving Map Display
Actual Eventide Argus 7000/CE shown, serial 170737. Color CRT moving-map display with attached wiring and mounting hardware pictured. Rear label: 11–33 VDC, 15 W. Software label: V05.06, software P/N 105097-002.
Test history and present condition
- Recently powered on. Color display, startup, map/menu screens and front-panel controls responded.
- The current built-in self-test reports CLOCK TEST FAILED. The seller previously replaced the clock battery about 12–13 years ago, which resolved the warning for a time. Eventide’s technical FAQ identifies this message with the U24 battery/memory module and says the color Argus continues to operate while clock functions are lost. The module has not been replaced again or retested after replacement.
- When GPS data was connected in the seller’s earlier simulator setup, the moving map worked well. That GPS-input test was years ago and has not been repeated recently.
- The unit has the last update Eventide supplied to the seller. Its startup screen nevertheless reports the onboard database expired on 09-Feb-2012. Without current GPS/navigation input, the screen displayed LRN DATA LOST.
Simulator or ground use only. Do not install in an aircraft. Eventide supplied the update on the condition that this unit would never return to a real aircraft. No current airworthiness approval or certification is included. The display works for simulator use as described. The clock functions remain unavailable until the U24 module is replaced.
The pictured wiring uses standard PC-style connectors. Some photographed screen colors appear distorted because of the camera shutter; the screen does not look that way when viewed directly. Review all photos for cosmetics, connectors and included parts. Will combine shipping when practical; see my other aircraft parts listings.
Navigation databases follow a 28-day update cycle. The 2012 expiration is about old data, not a failed display.
