1977 PIPER TURBO AZTEC F COMPLETE AIRFRAME, 3992 TT, SITTING, CHEAP!!
THE TURBO AZTEC “F” IS THE TOP OF THE LINE, THE FINAL VERSION OF THE
PIPER TWIN LINE THAT STARTED WITH THE 150 H.P. APACHE IN 1954!
WITH CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENTS AND UPGRADES, THE APACHE BECAME THE 6 PLACE
AZTEC WITH 250 H.P. PER SIDE, AND THE AIRFRAME EVOLVED TO A MUCH LONGER,
SLEEKER LOOK FROM THE APACHE’S “FLYING POTATO”!
THE “F” MODEL HAS THE LONG POINTY NOSE WITH RECESSED LANDING LIGHT
UNDERNEATH AND THE “ALL-FLYING” TAIL FOR BETTER PITCH AUTHORITY WITHOUT
INCREASED DRAG!
AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE, BY 1977, THE AZTEC WAS A MODERN AIRPLANE INSIDE,
WITH A WELL LAID OUT DASH, MODERN SYSTEMS, RAM’S HORN CONTROL YOKES AND
REFINED INTERIOR!
THIS AIRPLANE WAS USED REGULARILY, BUT NOT ABUSED, UNTIL SOMETIME AFTER
2013, WHEN THE OWNER STOPPED FLYING THE AIRPLANE, BUT KEPT IT INSURED,
WITH HOPES ONE DAY THEY COULD GET BACK TO FLYING.
UNFORTUNATELY, WHILE HE WAS WAITING, THE AIRCRAFT MOVED AROUND ON IT’S
TIEDOWN AT THE PEMBROOKE PINES AIRPORT IN SOUTH FLORIDA DURING A STRONG
WIND, AND THE RIGHT WING LEADING EDGE IMPACTED A METAL HANGER SUPPORT
IBEAM!
THERE IS AS A RESULT WRINKLING TO THE LEASING EDGE AND TOP FORWARD SKIN,
FROM JUST INBOARD OF THE WINGTIP, WHICH IS UNDAMAGED, TO A POINT 2 FEET
IN FROM THE TIP. THIS AREA IS THE AUX FUEL TANK, AND IT ACTUALLY SCREWS
ON TO THE WING, IT IS NOT RIVETED!
REPLACEMENT OF THIS WHOLE DAMAGED AREA WILL BE A SIMPLE BOLT IN!!
THE RIGHT WING ITSELF DID NOT SUFFER DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THIS INCIDENT!
THE BALANCE OF THE AIRFRAME ALSO DID NOT SUSTAIN DAMAGE FROM THIS INCIDENT!
NO IPACT DAMAGE TO THE FLAPS OR AILERONS, STABILATOR, VERTICAL OR RUDDER!
NO IMPACT AT ALL TO THE LEFT WING!
NO DAMAGE TO THE LONG NOSECONE OR TO THE BALANCE OF THE CABIN!
AS YOU MAY IMAGINE, HAVING THE AIRPLANE SIT UNUSED FOR 12 YEARS IN THE
FLORIDA SUNSHINE AND AIR IS NOT ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR AN AIRPLANE, AND
THERE S SURFACE CORROSION VISIBLE ON SOME SURFACES AND ON HARDWARE
THROUGHOUT.
BOTH ENGINES AND PROPELLORS WERE REMOVED AFTER THE DAMAGE OCCURRED, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING.
BOTH ENGINES WERE PROPERLY REMOVED, NOT CUT OUT, WITH A PLAN TO REPLACE
THEM AFTER THE WING WAS REPAIRED, BUT THAT DID NOT OCCUR.
ENGINE MOUNTS, CABLES, LINES AND HOSES ARE INTACT AND INCLUDED WITH THE AIRFRAME.
UNLIKE THE COMMON ACCIDENT AZTECS WE OFTEN SEE, THIS AIRPLANE HAS NO
DAMAGE TO THE BELLY, NOSE OR MAIN GEAR DOORS, NOR TO THE LANDING GEAR
ITSELF!
INSIDE THE DASH IS VIRTUALLY COMPLETE AS FLOWN, WITH ALL FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION INTACT!
EQUIPPED WITH A CENTURY HSI SYSTEM, A CENTURY III ALTITUDE HOLD
AUTOPILOT SYSTEM WITH RADIO AND GLIDESLOPE COUPLING AND ELECTRIC TRIM,
EVEN RADAR AND A WX-900 STORMSCOPE SYSTEM!!
THE RADIO PANEL UNITS FOR OLD KING STUFF WERE REMOVED, BUT THE TRAYS AND CONNECTORS ARE INCLUDED AND WIRED STILL.
BOTH TACHS HAVE BEEN UPGRADED TO DIGITAL VERSIONS, AND THERE IS AN EDM 760 DUAL ENGINE EGT/CHT DISPLAY INSTALLED!
