1955 PIPER TRI-PACER COMPLETE AIRFRAME, ONLY 2,405TT, VERY MINOR DAMAGE, CHEAP!
THE TRIPACER BEAT CESSNA’S 172 TO THE TRICYCLE GEAR PARTY BY 5 YEARS!
BOTH WERE TRICYCLE GEAR CONVERSIONS OF EXISTING 4 SEAT, 2 DOOR AIRFRAMES (PIPER’S PA-20 PACERAND CESSNA’S 170).
THE TRIPACER WAS PRODUCED FOR 10 YEARS, UNTIL THE INTRODUCTION OF THE ALL-METAL CHEROKEE SERIES, AND ALMOST 10,000 WERE PRODUCED!
FOR 20 YEARS, THE MOST COMMON MOD TO A TRIPACER WAS TO “REVERT” IT BACK TO PA-20 PACER, TAILDRAGGER CONFIGURATION, WHICH IS FINE, BUT I HAVE SEEN MORE NICELY RESTORED AND MAINTAINED TRIPACERS RECENTLY, SO I THINK A NEW GENERATION IS GETTING AQUAINTED WITH THE CLASSIC LINES, EASY FLYING, EASY GROUND HANDLING, 2 ENTRANCE DOORS AND 4 REAL SEATS OFFERED BY THESE AIRPLANES!
AND THE TRIPACER IS FASTER IN CRUISE AND SLOWER IN LANDING, OVER THE EQUIVALENT CHEROKEE!!
SO LEAVE IT AS A TRICYCLE OR CONVERT TO TAILWHEEL!
THIS IS A VERY LOW TIME AIRPLANE, WITH JUST OVER 2,400 HOURS TOTAL TIME!
NEVER A TRAINER, IT AQUIRED HOURS A FEW EVERY YEAR, NOT 250 PER YEAR LIKE SOME CHEROKEES DO!
NOT FLOWN AT ALL FROM 1985 UNTIL LATE 2012, BUT HANGERED, SO IT DIDN’T DETERIORATE, THEN ANNUALLED IN 2013 BUT NOT REALLY FLOWN, THEN GIVEN A GOOD INSPECTION AND UPDATES STARTING IN 2020, CONTINUING ON TO THE PRESENT!
IT HAS NEW SEALED LIFT STRUTS AND NEW STYLE FORKS, ELIMINATING ONE REPETATIVE A.D.!
IN 2022 THE RUDDER AND ELEVATOR CABLES WERE REPLACED AND A NEW LED BEACON WAS ADDED.
LAST ANNUAL WAS PERFORMED 7/10/2023 SO IT JUST EXPIRED IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR.
THIS AIRPLANE DID NOT CRASH OR HAVE AN IN-MOTION ACCIDENT!
AN AIRPLANE IN THE ADJOINING HANGER CAUGHT FIRE, AND WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SPRAYED WATER ON THE CEILING OF THAT HANGER, THEY SOAKED SOME OF THE CEILING OF THE TRIPACERS HANGER, AND CEILING PANELS AND INSULATION FELL ON IT, MOSTLY JUST ON THE TAIL!
NO DAMAGE CAN BE FOUND ON THE HORIZONTAL OR ELEVATORS, BUT THERE IS A LONGERON TUBE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TAILCONE THAT IS BROKEN (MY FINGER POINTS TO THE EXACT SPOT) AND THERE IS FABRIC DAMAGE, BUT NO DISCERNABLE TUBING DAMAGE, ONLY TO THE ANGLE WHERE THE VERTICAL FIN STARTS UP OFF THE FUSELAGE!
THE WEIGHT OF THE CEILING TILES PUSHED THE TAIL OF THE AIRPLANE DOWN AND IT HIT THE BOTTOM BOW OF THE RUDDER, WHICH IS NOW SLIGHTLY BENT ON THAT BOTTOM BOW. THE REST OF THE RUDDER AND THE HINGES ARE UNDAMAGED!
AND THAT IS IT!!!!!!!!!!
NO DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE, CABIN, COWLING OR GEAR!
NO DAMAGE TO EITHER WING NOR TO THE FLAPS OR AILERONS!
(THERE IS A BLACK SCUFF MARK IN THE PAINT ON THE TOP OF ONE WING, FROM HANDLING ONLY, AND IT DID NOT DAMAGE THE FABRIC IN THAT AREA).
THE FABRIC LOOKS GOOD OVERALL, WITH SOME SCATTERED SOOT THAT WASHES OFF!
THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOWS LOOK GOOD, DUE TO THE NSIDE STORAGE, I’M SURE!
THE INTERIOR IS IN FINE SHAPE, FRONT AND BACK.
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS VINTAGE, BUT FUNCTIONAL. NO RADIOS ARE INSTALLED OR INCLUDED, SO YOU CAN GO AS MILD OR WILD AS YOUR FANTASY TAKES YOU.
WE HAVE REMOVED THE OLD LYCOMING 0-320 ORIGINAL ENGINE (SO EARLY IN PRODUCION IT DIDN’T HAVE A SUFFIX LIKE A2B, ETC.) AND OLD PROPELLOR, AND THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED HERE.
THIS ALLOWS YOU TO INSTALL A MODERN 150 H.P., 160 H.P. OR EVEN (VIA S.T.C.), A 180 H.P. ENGINE.
THE AIRBOX, EXHAUST AND UNDAMAGED ENGINE MOUNT ARE INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING!
THIS IS A PRACTICAL FAMILY AIRPLANE FOR SHORT-MEDIUM DISTANCES, AND WILL ALSO LOOK GOOD AT A PANCAKE BREAKFAST OR FLY-IN!
