1. Automated engine control
- Start-up: The FADEC handles the complete engine start sequence, including engaging the starter, monitoring engine parameters like N1 (low-pressure compressor speed) and ITT (interstage turbine temperature), and adding fuel at the appropriate time.
- Thrust management: FADEC receives input from the throttle (or power lever) and adjusts engine parameters like fuel flow, stator vane position, and bleed valve position to achieve the desired thrust while remaining within safe operating limits.
- Engine protection: The system continuously monitors engine parameters and automatically takes corrective action to prevent over-speed, over-boost, or exceeding temperature limits, enhancing safety.
2. Integrated engine and aircraft systems
- FADEC enables seamless communication and coordination between the engine and other aircraft systems, improving overall efficiency and reducing pilot workload.
- Diagnostic capabilities: FADEC incorporates self-diagnosis and monitoring features that track engine health and generate maintenance reports, allowing for proactive maintenance and minimizing downtime.
