Current Price: 25.99 USD

Custom-built coaxial cable, assembled using low-loss Mil-spec RG-142 teflon coax with name brand BNC male connectors on the ends. This cable can also be used in GPS, GPS WAAS, Com, Transponder/DME, or ADS-B UAT installations when the antenna has a female BNC connector and the radio a female BNC. RG-142 offers a lower cost than RG-400 with slightly better performance, for installations that do not flex repeatedly.

I also offer this cable in more flexible RG-400 in another listing.

*Right angle BNC, TNC, or blind mate tray connectors available--contact me before purchase for options and cost

*Custom lengths to 300 feet available

This auction includes up to 9 feet of premium 50 ohm RG-142 cable, and name brand BNC connectors with a gold-plated center pin (center pin silver soldered for integrity and superior electrical performance and life). In addition, each connector has a 2 inch heatshrunk strain relief. Custom-imprinted heat-shrinkable cable labels (up to 2) are also included, up to 10 characters long each, to be specified by the buyer at time of order. Labeling will allow you to keep track of the coax function behind your panel or in dense cable bundles, and can be unique to your aircraft!

RG142 vs RG400? Both cables are of teflon construction, and double-shielded and silver plated. The difference is that the center conductor of RG-142 is silver-plated copper clad steel versus RG-400's stranded silver-plated copper construction. RG-142 has a slight performance edge over RG-400 and is 10 percent lighter. However, RG-142 requires more attention to assembly as it cannot tolerate stripping nicks, and it should not be used in environments where repeated flexing is encountered. I strip using professional calibrated tools and assemble under a microscope, so nicks are not an issue. I offer RG142 as a lower cost alternative for aviation installations where the cable will not flex, which comprises most airframe installs.

I can also leave the second connector finished except for the final crimp, on request. This allows you to route the cable through tight places in your aircraft that could not pass a BNC connector, leaving a simple crimp termination that is done with an inexpensive tool (also available for loan on request). All tri-level cable stripping is done in my shop--the tough part.

Why perhaps choose 8 feet instead of 9? Because that is the maximum RG-142 cable length that meets Garmin's transponder specification. This length is more than adequate for most general aviation aircraft. WIth most all installations including transponder, Com, Nav, and GPS (except Garmin 430W WAAS), the shorter the better, with the least amount of weight added to your airframe.

For for Garmin 430W WAAS installations, you will need a custom cable at least 13 feet long to meet minimum loss requirements, please contact me before bidding.

I also offer lower loss RG-393 cable for low-loss or long length applications.

On purchase, please specify the exact cable length, and the label text if desired. Note that custom cables may ship within 48 hours of order rather than my usual 24. This leaves time for inspection and test of the cables after manufacture.

Why buy from me rather than any other ebay or mass cable producer?

I build each cable by hand, to order, using professional precision, calibrated tooling

I inspect each strip and solder joint under a microscope before proceeding

I only use RG-142-designated aviation-grade connectors from name-brand manufacturers, not cheaper RG-58 connectors which don't fit as precisely, or Chinese connectors with questionable gold plating and construction

I use thickwall adhesive heatshrink

I can label your cables

I can build custom lengths within 1/2 inch to suit your application precisely

I can partially finish the cable ends to facilitate your airframe routing

I can answer your aviation-specific application questions
