TKM has developed a special niche in the avionics market. They make only direct replacement radios for common older avionics. This means that the owner of a TKM radio can replace the original radio at minimal installation cost, while enjoying convenience features such as frequency flip flop, frequency memory, and a bright easy-to-read display.
The MX-12 is the TKM radio designed as a slide-in replacement for the Narco MK-12A / MK-12B NAV/COMM. Since it has a more modern design, it no longer requires the MK-12A / MK-12B's remote power supply. This saves weight, heat, and complexity, while boosting reliability. However, the MX-12 requires more installation effort than other TKM radios.
Per the TKM manual: "Since the remote Power Unit of the MK12A is no longer required, the existing cable to the Power Unit must be disconnected and the adapter plug supplied with the MX-12 must be inserted where the Power Unit was removed." We will include this adapter plug
If you are inserting an MX-12 into a Glideslope installaton, there is an additional cable needed to interface with the Glideslope Receiver and Indicator. It used to be a simple matter to order this cable from the factory. this will also come with it if it is with the radio when we remove it
Additionally, the MX-12 features:
- 200 NAV channels
- 760 COMM channels
- FM Immune (ICAO Annex 10)
- Simultaneous digital display of both active and standby frequencies
- Push button frequency flip-flop
- 100 memory channels
- 8 watts transmit power
- Automatic squelch
