1977 Piper PA-28-161 Warrior II N40060

Summary

·       10358.6 Hours total time

·       Lycoming O-360-D3G 1501.3 SMOH (11/2006 by Zephyr Engines, FL)

·       Annual: 11/2016

·       ELT: 11/2016 (Battery good through 12/2022)

·       Pitot/Static: 1/17

·       Transponder: 1/17

·       All airworthiness directives complied with

·       Logs back to 10/1991 and/or 1718.8 hours total time. Original logs destroyed in a hangar fire, however the times are exact.

Airframe

·       N40060 has been mostly hangered its entire service life and has been in the north east. As such, it has minimal corrosion.

·       The aircraft has been involved in one documented incident where the aircraft struck a turkey vulture in 1999. The aircraft was repaired and returned to service and there is a FAA 337 and logbook entry that accompanies this listing. There was no spar damage, just the wing skin and ribs.

·       The aircraft has been primarily a training aircraft its whole life. As such, the total time is relatively high. However, the aircraft has seen a ton of maintenance and is very well sorted out.

·       In the past few years, the aircraft has received the following:

o   Plane Power Alternator

o   PMA Electric fuel pump

o   Mcfarlane Stabilator cable and bearing (Removing AD 2013-02-13)

o   Whelen tail beacon strobe

·       All filters, fluids, and wear and tear items are in good shape. This includes the hydraulic fluid, brake pads, tires, struts, etc.

·       The only INOP thing on the entire airframe are the two wing tip strobes. This is because the Whelen strobe box has lost the capability of firing all three strobes, therefore the only strobe currently connected is the tail beacon for legality purposes.

·       There are a variety of things wrong with minor aspects of the aircraft, such as the door doesn’t stay open because the slide lock spring is weak. The push to test annunciator button only works if you push it a certain direction. This is all wear and tear associated with the aircraft being high time. The cowling has seen better days but is completely airworthy.

·       The paint is original and is in pretty good shape for the age. There is no sun fading, peeling, or bare spots. However, near high use areas such as the cowling and refueling caps – there is some wear and tear and scratches.

·       The interior is new as of 2008 with Airtex cushions and carpet. The interior is in okay shape. The right-side seat has a tear on the right-side back bolster.

Avionics

·       Installed as of 11/2016, the aircraft has the following equipment:

o   Apollo GX-60 GPS/COMM. This unit is enroute, terminal, and approach certified.

o   KX-170B w/ Glideslope

o   KN75 Glide slope receiver

o   King KI-209 Indicator

o   AT575 GPS Antenna

o   Mid-Continent MD40 Indicator

o   Sigtronics 2 place intercom

o   KMA-24 Audio Panel

·       Recent maintenance includes:

o   New RC-Allen Attitude indicator

o   Overhauled Directional Gyro w/ heading bug.

·       All avionics are in great working order with exception to the marker beacon. This aircraft is IFR certified and capable. All instruments are in great working condition.

Engine

·       Last annual compression 60/80, 75/80, 77/80, 77/80. However, the last compressions done prior to this listing were 78/80 or better.

·       In the interest of full disclosure, this engine is making some metal. The last oil change done revealed some ferrous metal in the filter. The likely culprit knowing Lycoming engines is the camshaft and/or lifters. The cost of a new Lycoming camshaft, lifters, and tappets is roughly $1700 and involves opening the engine up. Another option would to be to source a serviceable engine from an aircraft salvage yard which will run approximately $8000 to $10,000. With that being said, in its current state I would not hesitate to fly this aircraft anywhere. The amount of metal in the filter was enough to bring attention to a potential problem, but not great enough where I feel/my mechanic feels it impacts the airworthiness of the aircraft.

·       The magnetos have both been overhauled in the last 100 hours. Mag drops are smooth and without issue.

·       The engine overall runs smooth and well within operating parameters.

T   This is a well sorted out IFR capable Warrior II. For the likely selling price of this aircraft you will be getting a solid trainer for both private pilots and instrument pilots alike. It is a great aircraft for time building and just flying in general. I will be happy to deliver this aircraft for the cost of fuel anywhere east of the Rocky Mountains. The aircraft is currently flying, legal, and airworthy.

This aircraft is being sold as-is!
