THE 601 IS A 2 PLACE SIDE BY SIDE EXPERIMENTAL, LOW WING, TRICYCLE GEAR AIRPLANE WITH A BUBBLE CANOPY THAT TIPS FORWARD.

THE ZENITH AIRPLANES ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR SIMPLE CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE (MOST SKINS ARE FASTENED TOGETHER WITH SIMPLE BLIND RIVITS (LIKE "POP" RIVITS)!

THIS AIRPLANE IS CONSTRUCTED THE SAME AS THE CH 701 AND CH750, THE AIRPLANES THAT ARE ASSEMBLED FROM SCRATCH BY VOLUNTEERS IN 1 WEEK EACH YEAR AT THE EAA OSHKOSH FLY-INS !!

EASY STUFF !!

THIS AIRCRAFT WAS FULLY ASSEMBLED, IN ANNUAL AND WITH AIRWORTHINESS GRANTED IN 2005.  NOT A PARTIALLY COMPLETED KIT, THIS IS AN AIRPLANE !!

TOTAL AIRFRAME TIME IS 271 HOURS !!

ZENITH HAD A BEEF-UP KIT FOR THIS AIRPLANE THAT CAME OUT A FEW YEARS BACK.  THIS AIRPLANE HAS THAT KIT INSTALLED !

INTERIOR IS IN GOOD CONDITION, WITH WILD SEAT COVERS AND MORE SEDATE CARPETED SIDE PANELS

THE DASH IS WELL LAID OUT AND FULL OF INSTRUMENTS, GUAGES, SWITCHGEAR AND CIRCUIT PROTECTION.  NO RADIOS ARE INCLUDED.

THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF A HARD NOSEWHEEL LANDING AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF CONTROL.

THE NOSEGEAR TUBE DROVE UP AND BACK, WHICH CRACKED THE UPPER CROSS SUPPORT AND  PUSHED THE CENTER OF THE FIREWALL BACKWARD.

THE FORK, WHEEL AND NOSEWHEEL PANT ARE DAMAGED, AND THEY PUSHED UP INTO THE CENTER OF THE BELLY, JUST AFT OF THE FIREWALL.

THE FIBERGLASS LOWER COWL HAS SOME DEFORMATION, AND THE UPPER SOME SLIGHT CRACKS

EACH OF THE WINGS HAS DAMAGE AT THE WINGTIPS, AND THE RIGHT WING HAS SOME SKIN DEFORMATION NEAR THE REAR SPAR.  THE SPAR ITSELF DOES NOT SHOW DEFORMATION.

THE MAIN GEAR HOOP AND 500X5 WHEELS AND BRAKES LOOK GOOD.

THERE IS A SMALL SKIN WRINKLE AT THE RIGHT SIDE FUSELAGE NEAR THE REAR GEAR ATTACH POINT (SHOWN)

THE HORIZONTAL AND ELEVATORS, AS WELL AS THE RUDDER AND VERTICAL ALL LOOK GOOD.

THE AIRFRAME AFT OF THE SMALL GEAR ATTACH WRINKLE ALREADY MENTIONED LOOKS TO BE UNDAMAGED.

THERE IS A CRACK AT THE REAR OF THE CANOPY ON THE PILOT'S SIDE.

SO THIS AIRPLANE HAS DEFINITE DAMAGE, BUT:

IT WAS ALREADY ASSEMBLED, PROVEN AND FLYING.  IT IS A REPAIR PROJECT, NOT A JUMBLE OF UNFINISHED PARTS.

IT LOOKS LIKE AN AIRPLANE, AND A CUTE RED ONE AT THAT,  WHICH CAN OFTEN HELP WHEN PITCHING A PROJECT TO A DOUBTING THOMAS (OF YOUR WIFE).  UNLIKE A KIT, YOU CAN SIT IN THE COMPLETED COCKPIT, ON COVERED SEATS, AND MAKE ZOOMY NOISES THE FIRST DAY !!

WE HAVE REMOVED THE ENGINE FROM THE TUBULAR MOUNT, (THE MOUNT IS INCLUDED AND IS PROBABLY OK.  THE NOSE GEAR DOES NOT ATTACH TO THE MOUNT), AND THE ENGINE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING.  THE LYCOMING 0-235 C1 ENGINE (115 H.P.) WAS UNBOLTED, NOT CUT OUT, AND ALL OF THE WIRING AND CONTROL CABLES ARE STILL ON THE AIRPLANE AND INSTALLED.

SO GO BACK WITH 115 H.P., OR INSTALL A 125 H.P., 135 H.P., OR 150 H.P. WITH THIS SAME MOUNT.  THESE ENGINES ARE READILY AVAILABLE ON THE OPEN MARKET, FROM US OR OTHERS, NOW, OR WHEN YOU GET THE AIRFRAME REPAIRED.

THIS AIRPLANE IS STORED INSIDE, AT OUR MAIN LOCATION AT THE CRYSTAL AIRPORT (KMIC), JUST NORTH OF MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (HOME OF THE SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR)
