THIS 172N IS A PERFECT PROJECT AIRPLANE!


A COMPLETE AIRFRAME, WITH NO AIRFRAME PARTS REMOVED, AND NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE OUTSIDE !


NOT CRASHED OR INVOLVED IN A MOVING ACCIDENT, THIS AIRFRAME SUFFERED ISOLATED DAMAGE WHEN AN ELECTRICAL WIRE BEHIND THE LEFT SIDE DASH WORE THROUGH AND SPARKED ON THE PRIMER, WHICH HAD

 A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL VAPORS ON IT.


YEP, IT STARTED A FIRE BEHIND THE DASH !!


THE LEFT SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS SCORCHED AND SMOKE DAMAGED


THE RADIOS WERE HEAT AND SMOKE DAMAGED, AND HAVE BEEN REMOVED


THE WINDSHIELD IS DISCOLORED, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED, BUT IT ISNT SAGGING, SO THERE WASNT THAT MUCH HEAT UP THERE


THE LEFT SIDE INSTRUMENTS ARE ALL DAMAGED, AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, OR BETTER YET, UPDATE THEM TO THE NEW VFR ASPEN OR GARMIN DIGITAL DG AND ATTITÜDE INDICATOR!


THERE  IS ABSOLUTELY NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME AT ALL FROM THIS INCIDENT !!


NO REPAINTING IS REQUIRED! (THERE IS A SMALL SPOT OF PEELING PAINT AT THE LEFT WINDSHIELD BASE. IT WILL BE A TOUCH-UP ONLY)


THE REST OF THE AIRFRAME LOOKS GOOD, AND THERE IS NO DISCOLORATION OR DEFORMATION AT ALL, ANYWHERE ON THE AIRPLANE !!


THE FIREWALL IS NOT DEFORMED OR WAVY, AND THE INSULATION BLANKET ON THE INSIDE IS STILL INTACT, SO THE HEAT DIDNT GET THROUGH IT


THERE WILL BE REWIRING TO DO, AND THE CHAINS AND BEARINGS ON THE LEFT SIDE YOKE SHOULD BE INSPECTED


THE SEATS HAVE FIRE EXTINGUISHER POWDER ALL OVER THEM, BUT ARE ACTUALLY IN GOOD SHAPE, AND WILL CLEAN UP !!


IN FACT THE WHOLE INTERIOR APPEARS UNDAMAGED EXCEPT THE LEFT SIDE KICK PANEL FORWARD OF THE DOOR, WHICH IS A LITTLE SCORCHED.


THE LEFT SEAT IS VERTICALLY ADJUSTING, AND HAS THE SEAT STOP RETRACTOR REEL INSTALLED TO COMPLY WITH A SERVICE BULLETIN.


THERE IS NO DAMAGE FROM THIS INCIDENT TO THE FUSELAGE

THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE WINGS OR CONTROL SURFACES

THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE TAIL OR TAIL FEATHERS

THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE COWLING

THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE MOUNT

THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE NOSE OR MAIN GEAR

BOTH DOORS ARE UNDAMAGED AND CLOSE WELL


CLEAN UP THE SOOT AND FIRE POWDER, DO A LITTLE DASH WIRING, AND REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD !!


ALL VERY EASY STUFF !!

 

THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REMOVED WITH ACCESSORIES FORWARD OF THE FIREWALL AND IS NOT INCLUDED (REMOVED TO KEEP ANOTHER ONE FLYING.


THE N MODEL 172 IS A DESIRABLE MODEL AIRPLANE AS FAR AS DESIGN, UPDATES AND SYSTEMS GO, BUT IT'S SHORTCOMING IS THE ENGINE.


THE FACTORY EQUIPPED THESE PLANES WITH A NEW MODEL OF LYCOMING ENGINE, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO REDUCE COST AND ALLOW FOR EASIER MAINTENANCE. THE 0-320H2AD HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE A HIGH MAINTENANCE, LOW RELIABILITY ENGINE, SO THIS AIRPLANE ISNT MISSING MUCH.


LUCKILY, THERE ARE TWO FAR BETTER ENGINES THAT CAN BE INSTALLED ON THIS AIRFRAME.


THE 0-320D2G IS A LATER MODEL, 160 H.P. ENGINE THAT BOLTS RIGHT ON TO THE MOUNT.  A GOOD CHOICE FOR FLIGHT TRAINING USE


THE 0-360A4M, IS A 180 H.P. ALTERNATIVE THAT ALSO BOLTS ON TO THE EXISTING MOUNT.  THE EXTRA POWER INCREASES PERFORMANCE IN ALL SEGMENTS, AND IT IS WHAT EVERY 172 OWNER WANTS FOR THEMSELVES.


THIS AIRPLANE GIVES YOU, THE PURCHASER, COMPLETE CONTROL OVER WHAT ENGINE TO INSTALL, AND WHAT AVIONICS AND INSTRUMENTS YOU WANT (OLD SCHOOL OR DIGITAL)
