1960 CESSNA 172A AIRFRAME, 6,096 TT, COMPLETE, LOOKS GOOD, CHEAP!

THE 1960 172 IS THE FIRST YEAR FOR THE SWEPT VERTICAL FIN AND RUDDER ON THE 172, INSTANTLY GIVING IT A MODERN PROFILE!

THESE AIRCRAFT STILL RETAIN THE FASTBACK FUSELAGE STYLING, AND ARE LIGHTER THAN LATER 172’S, FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE!

THIS AIRPLANE DID NOT CRASH AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT!

THE AIRPLANE CAME IN FOR IT’S SCHEDULED ANNUAL, AND THE MECHANIC PERFORMED MOST OF THE ANNUAL, THEN INSPECTED INSIDE THE FRONT FLOOR WHERE HE SAW A LITTLE SKIN DEFORMATION ON THE OUTSIDE, BY THE LIFT STRUT(SHOWN IN OUR PHOTOS).

UPON EXAMINING THE BULKHEAD THAT GOES FROM ONE LIFT STRUT TO THE OTHER, HE DISCOVERED AT LEAST 2 BOLT HOLES HAD CRACKS EMINATING FROM THEM.

IT IS UNKNOWN HOW LONG THESE CRACKS HAD BEEN IN THIS BULKHEAD, AS THEY WOULD BE EASY TO MISS IF YOU WEREN’T LOOKING FOR THEM.

RATHER THAN UNDERTAKE A REPAIR (VERY FEASABLE), THE OWNER CHOSE TO REPORT THE DAMAGE TO HIS INSURANCE COMPANY AS “HARD LANDING DAMAGE”, WITHOUT A SPECIFIC DATE OF AN OCCURANCE.

THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER BALKED AT CALLING THIS AN INSURABLE EVENT, SO THE OWNER “FOUND” DAMAGE THAT THE A&P DID NOT INCLUDE ON HIS ANNUAL DISCREPANCY FORM.

THESE ADITIONAL ITEMS INCLUDE THE LOWER SKIN ON THE RIGHT WING HAS “WAVES”.  NOT LIKELY FROM A SINGLE EVENT, JUST A 64 YEAR OLD AIRPLANE WITH 6,096 HOURS.

THE PHOTO OF THIS WING SHOWS THE WAVINESS AT LEAST AS BAD AS IT LOOKS TO THE NAKED EYE, MAYBE WORSE.

THE LEFT LOWER WING SKIN HAS FAR LESS WAVINESS, BUT WAS INCLUDED IN THE OWNERS LIST.

THERE IS A DENT IN THE REAR TAILCONE LOWER THAT APPEARS TO BE MORE LIKE HANGER RASH.

THE REST OF THE ENTIRE AIRFRAME IS NOT IN DISPUTE!

NO DAMAGE TO THE UPPER OR LOWER COWLING, FIREWALL OR NOSEGEAR!

NO DAMAGE TO THE FLAPS OR AILERONS ON EITHER SIDE.

THIS AIRPLANE IS EQUIPPED WITH FIBERGLASS WINGTIPS THAT HAVE THE SLIGHT DROOP LIKE THE LATE MODEL 172 TIPS, BUT ALSO HAVE A CLEAR LENS FOR A FORWARD FACING LANDING LIGHT, ALSO GREAT FOR “SEE AND BE SEEN” VISABILITY!

THE DOORS FIT AND OPERATE AS THEY SHOULD.

NO GLASS IS DAMAGED.

THE TOPS OF THE WINGS ARE NOT WAVY, AND YOU CAN SEE THERE IS NO MOVEMENT AT THE FAIRINGS AT THE ATTACH POINTS ON THE FUSELAGE.

NEITHER LIFT STRUT IS DAMAGED.

THE SWEPT TAILA AND TAILFEATHERS ARE UNDAMAGED.

THE MAIN GEAR, WHEELS AND BRAKES AND GEAR ATTACH POINTS SHOW NO DAMAGE.

INSIDE, THE TAN CLOTH INTERIOR IS IN NICE SHAPE!

THE DASH IS VERY CLEAN, AND INCLUDES ALL LATE MODEL FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS, INCLUDING A COLORED BACKGROUND ATTITUDE INDICATOR AND VERTICAL CARD D.G., IN AN UPDATED PANEL LAYOUT.

ALL OF THE ENGINE AND AIRFRAME GAUGES ARE INCLUDED AND AS INSTALLED, AS ARE CIRCUIT PROTECTION AND SWITCHGEAR!

THE RADIO INSTALLED IS AN EDO-AIR 553 NAV-COM.

A 4 PLACE VOICE ACTIVATED INTERCOM IS ALSO WIRED AND INSTALLED.

AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE PHOTOS, THE 0-300 ENGINE HAS BEEN UNBOLTED AND IS NOT INCLUDED.
