THE ROCKWELL COMMANDER 112, AND IT’S FOLLOW-ON THE LARGER ENGINED 114, ARE MODERN, SPACIOUS, SWOOPY 4 SEAT LOW WING RETRACTABLE GEAR AIRPLANES.

ALTHOUGH THE 112 WAS BUILT TO COMPETE WITH THE PIPER ARROW AND BEECH SIERRA, IT STARTED WITH A CLEAN SHEET OF PAPER, AND HAS THE LOOKS AND FEATURES THAT POINT TO IT BEING 20 YEARS MORE MODERN!!

LONG AND “SWOOPY”, WITH A POINTY COWL,  PLENTY OF GLASS, A SWEPT WINDSHIELD, MID MOUNTED STABILATOR AND TRAILING LINK LANDING GEAR TO ABSORB BUMPS BETTER!

DOORS ON BOTH SIDES!!!!!

INSIDE THE CABIN IS 47” WIDE BY 49” TALL, WHERE THE ARROW IS 41” WIDE BY 38” TALL.

THE COMMANDER FEELS MORE LIKE A CABIN CLASS AIRPLANE INSIDE!!

THE COMFORTABLE BUCKET SEATS ARE JOINED BY A SPLIT BENCH REAR WITH A FOLD UP CENTER ARMREST, TO GIVE IT A 2 SEPARATE BUCKETS LOOK, AND THERE IS A GENEROUS BAGGAGE AREA, ACCESSABLE OVER THE TOP OF THE REAR SEAT AND ALSO WITH IT’S OWN OUTSIDE DOOR.

THE SEATS IN THIS AIRPLANE ARE COOLER THAN MOST, AS THEY HAVE BEEN UPDATED WITH 2 TONE LEATHER IN LIGHT GREY WITH BRIGHT RED INSERTS ON THE SEATS AND SIDE PANELS!!

THE FRONT SEATS HAVE REMOVABLE HEADRESTS, AND THE REAR SEATBACKS HAVE CUSTOM “ROCKWELL” CALLOUTS IN BRICHT RED!!

LIKE OTHER LATE MODEL AIRPLANES, ALL 4 SEAT POSITIONS ARE EQUIPPED WITH SHOULDER HARNESES!

THE EXTERIOR PAINT SCHEME USES THE SAME BRIGHT RED LOWER AS THE INTERIOR, WITH THE ADDITION OF A MODERN ACCENT WITH BLACK AND GOLD “SWOOP” STRIPES!

THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE WHEN THE PILOT MADE WHAT APPEARED TO BE A NORMAL LANDING AT THE TAMIAMI AIRPORT IN MIAMI FLORIDA.

AS SHE ROLLED DOWN THE RUNWAY, THE RIGHT GEAR FOLDED, WHICH ALLOWED THE RIGHT WING OUTBOARD TO TOUCH THE RUNWAY, AND THEN THE AIRPLANE WAS PULLED TO THE RIGHT OFF THE RUNWAY, WHERE THE NOSEGEAR FOLDED BACK AS WELL.

TESTING AFTER THE INCIDENT SHOWED ALMOST NO HYDRAULIC FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR.

WHEN IT WAS REFILLED, THE GEAR CYCLED FINE, (IT IS DOWN AND UNDAMAGED NOW), BUT THE HYDRAULIC POWER PACK THAT POWERS THE GEAR WAS FOUND TO BE LEAKING.

AS THE LEFT MAIN DID NOT COLLAPSE, THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THAT SIDE WING, FLAP, AILERON OR TIP, AND THE COMMANDER’S TALL GEAR ENSURED THERE WOULD BE NO BELLY DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THE INCIDENT EITHER.

THE AILERON AND FLAP ALSO SUSTAINED NO DAMAGE ON THE RIGHT SIDE!

THE WING OUTBOARD IS HEAVILY SCRAPED AT THE TIP, AND THE OUTBORN SKIN PANELS, OUTBOARD OF WHERE THE MAIN SPAR ENDS, IS PUSHED UP SLIGHTLY.

THIS WING WOULD BE REPAIRABLE, OF COURSE, OR A FASTER METHOD WOULD BE WING REPLACEMENT.

THEERE IS NO FUSELAGE DAMAGE AT THE WING ATTACHMENT POINTS!

IN FACT, THERE IS NO FUSELAGE DAMAGE OF ANY KIND!

NO DAMAGE TO THE TAIL OR TAIL FEATHERS!

NEITHER OF THE MAIN GEAR, OR THE MAIN GEAR DOORS, IS DAMAGED!

WHEN THE NOSEGEAR FOLDED BACK IN THE DIRT, IT DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE DAMAGED THE NOSEGEAR, OR THE ENGINE MOUNT AT ALL!!

THE LOWER FIBERGLASS COWLING IS DAMAGED AT THE FORWARD LOWER EDGE, AND BOTH NOSEGEAR DOORS ARE DAMAGED.

NO FIREWALL DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED, AND THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE LOWER COWLING FURTHER BACK, AND NONE TO THE UPPER COWLING AT ALL!

THE 3 BLADE HARTZELLPROP HAS HAD IMPACT TO ALL 3 BLADES, SO IT WILL REQUIRE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT.

THE LATE MODEL POINTY POLISHED SPINNER IS UNDAMAGED!

AS A RESULT OF THE PROP DAMAGE, THE ENGINE WILL REQUIRE A PROP STRIKE INSPECTION, BUT NOT AN OVERHAUL!!

WITH JUST ABOUT ½ OF IT’S EXPECTED LIFE LEFT (2,000 HOUR RECOMMENDED TIME BETWEEN OVERHAULS) AND COMPRESSIONS ALL 74/80 AND ABOVE AT THE LAST ANNUAL, 2/2023, AN OVERHAUL IS NOT REQUIRED OR INDICATED HERE!!
